H.E.Mr.John Langtry, the first resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Commonwealth of Australia to Mongolia presented today his Letter of Credentials to the President of Mongolia H.E.Mr. Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj.
After the ceremony of presenting the Credentials, the Ambassador held a meeting with the President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj. During the meeting, the President congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment as the first resident Ambassador to Mongolia. The President also noted that Mongolia and Australia have a long tradition of friendly relations and cooperation, and that Mongolia views the Australian Government decision to establish an Embassy in Ulaanbaatar as a clear gesture of the high importance it attaches to the bilateral relations with Mongolia.
The Ambassador John Langtry expressed his gratitude for the assistance and support provided by the Mongolian side in establishing the Embassy. Furthermore, the Ambassador noted that he would work towards enhancing the bilateral relations and cooperation and make every effort to re-establish the Australian Government scholarship program.
The President also expressed his hope that Australia would participate at high level in the forthcoming ASEM Summit to be held in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar.
The Ambassador John Langtry is a career diplomat, who previously served in China, Germany and Japan, and worked as the Assistant Secretary for North East Asia Branch at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia prior to his appointment.
