HIS EXCELLENCY LUNDEG PUREVSUREN, MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS, MEETS WITH FOREIGN DELEGATES OF THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ENTITLED “ULAANBAATAR DIALOGUE ON NORTHEAST ASIAN SECURITY”
His Excellency Lundeg Purevsuren, Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with foreign delegates participating in the 3rd International Conference entitled “Ulaanbaatar Dialogue on Northeast Asian Security”.
Many eminent international scholars, researchers and experts participate in the conference organized within the framework of the “Ulaanbaatar Dialogue Initiative on Northeast Asian Security”, discuss and exchange their views on various issues related to the regional cooperation. The 3rd Conference highlighted issues related to the current security situation in the Northeast Asia, emerging and existing challenges, ways and means of building confidence and mutual understanding among the regional countries and promoting the economic cooperation in the region. In addition, participants shared their experiences for the first time in the areas of environmental protection and disaster management.
Foreign Minister Lundeg Purevsuren noted that Mongolia is striving to make its contribution to the security of the region and answered to the questions of the delegates on foreign policy.
The Conference, opened on June 16 in Ulaanbaatar, has been organized by the Institute of Strategic Studies in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia. In the two days Conference participated over 150 people, including scholars and researchers from People’s Republic of China, D.P.R.K, Japan, Russian Federation, Republic of Korea, USA, Germany, India, the United Kingdom, Australia and France. Also representatives from the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and Mongolian government organizations and private institutions took part in the Conference.
Mr. Choi Kang Il, head of Section of the Institute of American Studies under Ministry of Foreign Affairs of D.P.R.K, Dr.Sang Hyun Lee, Vice President of the Sejong Institute of Republic of Korea, Ms.Jenny Town, the Assistant Director of the US-Korea Institute at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in the USA and Ms.Elena Boekova, a senior researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences and others made presentations on the regional security, current economic situation and its prospects, on the cooperation in environmental protection.
Within the framework of the “Ulaanbaatar Dialogue” Initiative, a series of important meetings, including the “Northeast Asian Women Parliamentarians Conference”, the “Northeast Asian City Mayor’s Forum”, “Energy Connectivity Workshop” and “Northeast Asian Youth Symposium” were hosted in Ulaanbaatar so far.
