STATE SECRETARY D.DAVAASUREN MEETS PRINCIPAL DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR CONSULAR AFFAIRS

On April 25, 2019, State Secretary D.Davaasuren met with Mr. Ian G. Brownlee, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs at the United States Department of State in Washington, DC.

The sides noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the US Department of State are opening a separate channel of consular discussion by holding the first bilateral consular consultation.

They also emphasized positive results of “Travel Responsibly” campaign, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Embassy in Ulaanbaatar, including improved compliance of Mongolian nationals with US immigration laws and decreased number of visa overstays.

State Secretary D.Davaasuren further stated that Mongolia has been working towards reaching its long-term goal of joining US Visa Waiver Program.

As of 2018, around 175,000 Mongolian nationals live overseas, of which over around 25,000 work and study in 200 cities across the U.S.
