MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF MONGOLIA AND THE US DEPARTMENT OF STATE HOLD FIRST CONSULAR CONSULTATION
On April 25, 2019, Mongolia and the United States held first consular consultations in Washington DC. The Mongolian delegation, joined by consular officials from Mongolian Embassy in Washington DC, its mission in New York as well as Consulate General in San Francisco, was led by L.Munkhtushig, Director General of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry while the US delegation was led by Mr. Edward Ramotowski, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of State.
The consultation was a significant step as it opened a dedicated channel to discuss consular affairs between the two countries. During the consultation, the sides exchanged views on consular cooperation and engagement, and underscored the successes of the “Travel Responsibly” consular outreach campaign, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.
In addition, the sides have agreed to explore the possibilities of enrolling more Mongolian citizens under the H2 visa program, which is extended to Mongolian nationals by the US Department of Homeland Security in 2019. The Mongolian side also informed the US that it is taking step by step measures to reach Mongolia’s long term goal of joining the US Visa Waiver Program.
