On 2 August 2019, His Excellency Mr. Damdin Tsogtbaatar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, attended the 26th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) held in Bangkok, Thailand. During the Forum, the Foreign Minister of Mongolia delivered remarks introducing the country’s position on regional and international security issues, and shared his thoughts on the future direction of the ARF. In particular, he underlined that the ARF has played a positive role in strengthening cooperation in Asia and the Pacific since its inception and added that Mongolia welcomes the advancement of the ARF process towards the preventive diplomacy phase in parallel with the strengthening of confidence-building measures. In the context of the increased role of the ARF in the regional Confidence Building and Preventive Diplomacy exercises, His Excellency Mr. Tsogtbaatar proposed to organize an informal meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Northeast Asian countries on the sidelines of the ARF Ministerial Meeting. Furthermore, the Foreign Minister of Mongolia highlighted the importance of youth participation in addressing non-traditional security challenges and introduced the country’s initiatives in that respect.

On the sidelines of the 26th ASEAN Regional Forum, Foreign Minister of Mongolia held bilateral meetings with His Excellency Mr. Wang Yi, State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, His Excellency Mr. Taro Kono, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, The Right Honourable Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand and His Excellency Mr. Igor V. Morgulov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, exchanging views on the issues pertaining to the bilateral relations and international cooperation, respectively.
